Dazed and Confused

Portrayed on television screens and in real high school hallways adolecents become robots of the common misconceptions they are accostumed to seeing. People see these stereotypes and automatically plaster them to a certain group. Not very many of these labels are actually true. These mistaken identities turn from a small label, to prejudices that cause major problems.
Stereotypes are very apparent in the movie, Dazed and Confused. The story is set on the last day of school, in 1976. The main characters are upcoming Seniors with only a few things on their minds for this summer; parties, beer, and marijuana! The stereotypes portaryed in the movie mainly focus on the underachievers, or "the stoners". The jocks are seen as dumb and the popular girls are shown as easy. The movie begins in the last few hours left of school and the characters are anxious to preform the "rituals" that come with being a senior, i.e. slap sticks and hazing. O'Bannion is a super senior out to get all the new freshman boys. Mitch Kramer a lanky young chap is running for his life in order to escape the pain of O'Bannion's wrath. Slater, a typical stoner and his friends Pink and Kevin Pickford are looking forward to the first party of the summer as they get high in Pickfords room. All plans are shot down when Mr. Pickford finds out about this upcoming party and chooses to stay. Pink is also faced with the dilemma of a contract to continue his spot on the high school football team next year. He is seen by his coach as "running with the wrong crowd". The night goes on and it only gets wilder.
Pink's coach assumes Pink's new friends will cause him to lose the season for the team. He is convinced the fate of the team relies on the signature of Randy Floyd. His friends, however much of underacheivers and losers they may seem, are not the reason Randy won't sign the papers. He is tired of being the typical quaterback and refuses to buy into the conformity.
