There are lots of tv shows out specifically on ABC. ABC has a lot of shows that like to point out social issues. In this series, Switched at Birth, it’s about two families that must be combined together. These two families have different backgrounds. One is white, and the other is Latino. Throughout the show they take notice to different stereotypes that exist in real life. This show is prejudice towards Latino women because they show them living in poverty and they have a bad life. It’s also prejudice towards white families saying that they are all stuck up and rich.
Switched at birth is a TV series about two girls that were switched in a hospital at birth. One baby went to one family while the other was with the other family. Basically one family is a rich white family with a huge house, lots of money, there kids go to private school, and they are very stubborn. The other family is a Latino family that lives in the ghetto part of town, doesn’t make very much, doesn’t have a father, lives with her mother, and is an illegal immigrant.
By having two families of different nationalities and cultures, they really emphasize stereotypes on whites and Latinos. The parents specifically are related to stereotypes. The white parents want to take both children, and sue the hospital for the charges. This show points out that the White family is stubborn and money hungry. The Latino wants to meet her real daughter slowly and not push her into anything and she is against suing the hospital. The show points out that Latinos are willing to let hide and are against involvement with the government. There’s a specific scene in the show when the parents are arguing over what they should do with the children. They argue that they wanted to try to go to courts for full custody of there real birth child, while still having custody of Latino child. This proves that the white family in this shown as a selfish, power hungry couple and only care about themselves.
